SPEAKER Alan Peter Cayetano is confident that he has the support of the majority members of the 18th Congress.
After confirming an alleged coup attempt, Speaker Cayetano said many of the lawmakers are expressing their support to his leadership.
“Confident naman ako. Trabaho lang tayo. Nagpapahayag naman sila ng support,” Cayetano said in an ambush interview.
According to Cayetano, he respects the term-sharing between him and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco which was brokered by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte.
However, Cayetano accused the camp of Velasco of being behind the coup plot because they can no longer wait until October.
The House leader said Velasco, with the help of some congressmen, is already promising giving budgets and chairmanships in order to get help in ousting Cayetano.
“Ang problema, imbes na magtrabaho at umabot sa October, e sari-sari ang ginagawang pang-iintriga, ‘yung sa pondo, sa budget, dun po sa ABS-CBN issue, and siguro nahahaluan na ngayon dahil nga may mga hearing kami kung saan more than 100 billion pesos ang sinisingil ng gobyerno sa iba’t ibang malalaking korporasyon, so sometimes ‘yung mga coup plot tulad nito ay it’s more than meets the eye,” Cayetano stressed.
Cayetano noted that the majority of the lawmakers is supporting the reforms he is doing in the Lower Chamber.
“Sa aking personal analysis, yung mga reforms na ginagawa natin ay suportado ng great majority ng mga Kongresista,” he added.
Under the term-sharing agreement, Cayetano will sit as speaker in the first 15 months of the 18th Congress while Velasco will take over in the next 22 months.
Velasco denied the rumors.
