TAGBILARAN City, Bohol -- “Let’s talk Speakership after elections,” Hugpong ng Pagbabago founder and chairman Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said following her announcements of possible candidates for Speaker of the 18th Congress.
In two consecutive days, Mayor Sara has endorsed two dark horses for the position. First she introduced former Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez during the campaign rally in Tacloban City and yesterday she raised the hand of Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
In an interview after the campaign rally here, Mayor Duterte explained that she is supporting all those aspiring to be the next Speaker of the House especially those helping the Duterte administration.
“Lahat sila supportive sa admin ni Pangulong Duterte, binibigyan natin sila ng support din. The best time to talk the speakership is after the election. At this early lahat na sinasabi nila tutulong sila para matulak ang pagbabago na promise ni Pangulong Duterte,” the presidential daughter said.
She added there it’s no big deal if she endorses more than one candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Mayor Duterte hinted that since the PDP-Laban is the party of the President, the members of the group have an advantage.
“May advantage mga taga PDP because the party of the President is PDP-Laban, may advantage talaga ang members ng PDP because as we all know usually when elections happen majority talaga ang kailangan mo, so ngayon kasi ang majority nasa PDP,” she further explained.
According to Mayor Duterte, former Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is also aspiring to be Speaker.
Velasco is a member of the PDP, Romualdez is the President of Lakas-CMD party while Cayetano is from the Nacionalisa Party (NP).
The HNP campaign manager also acknowledged the support and alliance of Romualdez.
