Summer safety plan set

THE Philippine National Police Directorate for Police-Community Relations headed by Major General Benigno B. Durana Jr. this week will officially launch a massive police security and public safety plan to protect summer vacationers nationwide, PNP chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde announced yesterday.

The PNP chief said that the PNP “Ligtas SUMVAC 2019” will coordinate all police activities on road safety and motorist assistance, route security, traffic management, and crime prevention along major travel routes, places of convergence, and tourist destinations.

He added that “Oplan Ligtas SUMVAC 2019” also sets the operational guidelines for concerned units to secure vital installations and implement target hardening measures in public infrastructure, transportation terminals, commercial establishments, airports and seaports.

The summer security plan begins at school break through the Holy Week in April, and throughout the Fiesta and Flores de Mayo season in May, overlapping the entire 4-month election period, until the opening of classes in June when students go back to the urban centers from the provinces.

Durana said that during the period, police presence will be intensified through increased foot/mobile patrols, the establishment of Police Assistance Desks/Centers (PADs/Cs) and the deployment of Road Safety Marshals in convergence points particularly in bus terminals, seaports, train stations, recreational areas including highways, main streets and crime prone areas to ensure maximum police presence.

“The PNP assures the public that sufficient units are on standby, ready to respond to any situation and act on contingencies,” said Gen. Albayalde.
