A SENIOR adviser of the Transportation department yesterday proposed the setting up of a toll gate on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

In an interview, former Chairman of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and current senior adviser of theDepartment of Transportation (DOTr) Engineer Alberto Suansing citee the gains from a toll gate on EDSA.

“Actually matagal ng proposal yan, over 10-years. Kung maalala mo panahon ko pa sa LTFRB pinagusapan na yan. Ang sabi ko nga pwede yan only after na maging efficient ang Public Transport System sa bansa,” said Suansing.

Suansing cited the benefits to be gained from a toll gate on EDSA. The proposal if approved and implemented by the government particularly the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), will be beneficial, he sakd..

“One thing is sure the volume of traffic will defenitely lessen and more importantly, it will bw income generating for the government,” he said.

In a separate inteview Lawyer Atty. Ariel Inton, also a former Board Member of LTFRB, said the proposal should be carefully studied.

Inton, a former Quezon City councilor and now transport and commuter advocate, said in an interview it would be better for the government to think first before a toll gate is installed om EDSA.

“Paglagay ng toll gate sa EDSA pag aralan mabuti,” stressed Inton.

Inton explained the strecth of EDSA should not be compared with existing free ways, and other highways.

“Maraming intersection ang EDSA, hindi tulad ng mga expressways natin, tulad ng area ng East Avenue, to Crame, B., Serrano ganun kaikli ang biyahe tapos pasok ka ng tollgate,” said Inton.

“One thing is sure,  the fare defenitely would increase and it woul mean additional expenses for the commuters,” he said. As I said please! “Pag isipan mabuti ang isyung,” he added.
