WEARING pins calling for justice, lawmakers yesterday paid their last tribute and offered prayers to slain Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, held a Requiem Mass and Necrological Service in honor of Batocabe, who was assassinated on December 22, 2018 after attending a gift-giving activity for senior citizens in Daraga, Albay.
In her eulogy, Arroyo described Batocabe as a bubbly member of the House, which was one reason why he was well-liked by almost all solons.
“Rodel is a daring man when it comes to pursuing his advocacies. He conveyed his ideas with passion and brilliance,” Arroyo said, adding that Batocabe had authored at least 33 laws all with national import.
Arroyo then joined the solons, the Ako Bicol party-list, the Party-list Coalition and the people of Daraga, Albay in calling for justice for Batocabe.
While she congratulated the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the quick arrest of the killers, Arroyo called on the authorities to ensure that the mastermind will be punished.
Batocabe was running for Daraga Mayor when slain. Incumbent Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo was named the mastermind of the killing based on the statements of the six suspects already under PNP custody.
Batocabe’s colleague in the Party-list Coalition, Deputy Speaker and OWA-AMBIS Rep. Sharon Garin was in tears when she described him as her “partner in crime.”
