Trillanes going home

September 28, 2018

AFTER 24 days of staying in the Senate, opposition Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV will finally go home this weekend after a Makati judge handling his coup d’ etat case deferred the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

A smiling Trillanes faced the media Friday afternoon, and announced that he now can go home and be with his family.

This was met by loud applause by his supporters and even the media which has been covering Trillanes’ predicament since September 4 after President Rodrigo Duterte revoked his amnesty for his involvement in the Oakwood Mutiny and Manila Peninsula siege.

“This day was won by what is right. The rule of law won. Due process won,” Trillanes said.

He also thanked the Senate leadership and his colleagues for allowing him to seek refuge in the Senate. He likewise expressed gratitude to his supporters who flocked to the Senate and to the media.

Judge Andres Soriano of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 148 scheduled a hearing on October 5 in order for both parties to present evidence on whether or not Trillanes filed the requisite application for amnesty and if there was or no admission of guilt on his part.
