OPPOSITION Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday posted bail with the Davao City Regional Trial Court on four counts of libel filed by former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte and his brother-in-law Manases Carpio.
In total, Trillanes paid P96,000 -- or P24,000 for each count as required by Judge Melinda Alconcel-Dayanghirang of Branch 54.
Paolo Duterte accused Trillanes of maligning him and his family in a radio interview in Cebu.
Trillanes allegedly accused the younger Duterte and Carpio of corruption and extortion involving Uber and other companies regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Meanwhile, the Davao RTC gave Trillanes five days to comment on the prosecution’s motion for the issuance of a hold departure order
The court is not expected to issue an HDO until it has received and evaluated Trillanes’ comment, said Guevarra.
“My instruction to the BI (Bureau of Immigration) is clear: if there’s no HDO issued by any court, let Sen. Trillanes travel abroad. The matter of getting the Davao court’s permission to travel is between Trillanes and the court. If he travels without court permission, that is his own lookout,” Guevarra said.
