A TRICYCLE accidentally fell into a deep cliff in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur after its brakes malfunctioned on Wednesday evening killing one of its passengers and injuring five others, the Police Regional Office 9 reported yesterday.
An initial investigation showed that the tricycle driver identified as Casimiro Ricabar Jr., 37, a resident of Purok Panaghiusa in Barangay Sumadiat, Dumalinao town lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed while they were traversing Purok Crossing in nearby Bgy. Mecolong at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
As a result, the tricycle -- a Kawasaki Barako 125cc with plate no. JY 9019 -- fell into a cliff injuring its occupants. One of the victims identified as Leah Tadlas, a 63-year-old resident of Purok Gimelina in Bgy. Paglaum, died while undergoing treatment.
The others injured identified as Dona Morales, 32, a day-care teacher; a 5-year old boy; a 15-year-old boy; a 13-year-old girl; driver Ricabar and his wife Mary Jane, 28, were still being taken cared of at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City.
The tricycle was impounded at the Dumalinao Municipal Police Station, said PRO9 director, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis D. Licup.
