TEN armed drug trafficking suspects were killed while 111 others were arrested in a day-long anti-criminality operations launched by members of the Central Mindanao police all over the region on Monday, Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Michael John F. Dubria announced yesterday.
In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official said 5 of the 10 suspects killed in gunbattles with undercover officers were included in the Inter-Agency Drug Information Database of the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Dubria said 11 assorted unlicensed firearms, one hand grenade and 85 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu were recovered from the suspects.
The 111 others were arrested in the simultaneous conduct of law enforcement operations or SACLEO from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in different parts of the region.
Dubria said members of the PRO12 Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the Regional Intelligence Unit 12, the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato Police Provincial Offices were involved in the so-called ‘one-time, big-time operations.’
The official said the anti-narcotics operations were likewise coordinated by his men with the local PDEA office.
The PRO12’s SACLEO or ‘one-time, big-time’ operations include the conduct of the successful buy-bust operations which led in the killing of the 10 armed suspects after they engaged undercover agents in shootouts and the arrest of the 111 others.
Dubria said that the arrested suspects were either wanted for involvement in illegal drug trafficking or the subject of warrants of arrest for various crimes.
The operations saw hundreds of undercover and uniformed PRO12 officers and men simultaneously going after their targets in General Santos City and the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato, Dubria said.
The arrested suspects are now being held in different PRO12 police stations where criminal charges are being readied against them. The bodies of the 10 slain suspects were claimed by their respective families.
