CAVITE City, Cavite -- Authorities of National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) on Thursday seized some 16 kilos of assorted meat worth P2,240 for not following the proper handling of chilled, frozen and thawed meat at Cavite City Public Market.
Meat Inspector III George Garcia and Dr. Anna Teresa Baledo, of the City Veterinarian Office, together with Cavite City Police Office and Bantay Karne Task Force Cavite City, were conducting joint second inspection this month (first was Nov. 10, 2018) at around 5 a.m. at the meat section at the City Public Market in Bgy. 27, Caridad.
The 16 kilos of assorted “mishandled” meats comprised of pork and chicken.
NMIS will issue summons and written warning to the involved meat vendors.
The meat was confiscated for violation of DA Administrative Order No. 06, series of 2012, entitled, “Rules and regulation on hygienic handling of chilled, frozen and thawed meat in meat market” and DA Circular No. 12, series of 2015, while the confiscated assorted meats will be turned over to City Veterinary Office for proper disposition.
Last Nov. 10, NMIS confiscated 1,737 kilos of undocumented meat worth P300,000 -- 770 kilos of pork, 845 kilos of chicken and 50 kilos of beef.
“Ito po’y ginagawa ng NMIS at ng ating tanggapan para maging legal lahat para sa isasakaayos ng ating mga paninda at para sa consuming public,” City Veterinarian Dr. Anna Baleda.
