TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – Amid President Duterte’s imposition of enhanced community quarantine in Luzon as a preventive measure against COVID-19, 13 persons in this town conducting illegal cockfighting called "bularet" were nabbed by anti-gambling police operatives during a raid on Sunday afternoon here.
Town police commander Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito identified those nabbed as Jessie Estares, 34, Ricardo Padigdig, 35, Ricky Magtalapa, 34, Raymond Magtalapa, 25, Ryan Magtalapa, 32, Ricardo Magtalapa, 54, Renzo Magtalapa, 23, Restituto Magtalapa, 52, caretaker, Michael Duran Quinto, 24, Mark Jerome Ferry, 27, Larry Somera, 48, Wilfredo Marcos Jr., 26, and Abert Magtalapa, 28, all of Bgy. Dimasalang Sur, this town.
Seized during the operation were six fighting cocks, 14 gaffs (tare), four pieces of cock gloves, and P2,000 in bet money.
Desamito said the operation was conducted after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen that an illegal "bularet" operation was being conducted in Bgy. Dimasalang Sur at 4:50 p.m.
Charges for violation of PD 1602 are being prepared for filing against the suspects before the provincial prosecutor's office.
Meanwhile, in Rizal, Nueva Ecija police raided an illegal cockfighting den where "tupada" operations were being conducted and arrested four men during an operation on Sunday morning.
Also seized were a fighting cock, bet money worth P200, and two tricycles of the arrested suspects.
