TWO Basilan policemen have been honored by the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Administrative Region headed by Brigadier General Manuel M. Abu for their bravery and dedication to duty.
One of the two, Staff Sergeant Simhar Jumala even paid the ultimate sacrifice while checking the presence of heavily-armed men in Barangay Parangbasak in Lamitan City last April 4.
Abu said that the gunmen immediately opened fire at the police team killing SSgt. Jumala and injuring Corporal Gamar Asani.
A posthumous Medalya ng Kadakilaan was given to the late SSgt. Simhar by the PRO-BAR leadership in recognition of his bravery and heroism.
The medal was awarded by Basilan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Rodrigo C. Maramo to the slain cop’s family who also received a total of P125,000 cash assistance from the regional police force.
On the other hand, Cpl. Asani was given the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and P98,500 in cash assistance by the PRO-BAR leadership. The wounded policeman also got another P51,000 in additional financial assistance, the money coming from uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the Basilan police force.
The two are both members of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Basilan PPO headed by Lieutenant Col. Cessazid Umabong whose men are still tracking down the gunmen who attacked the police team in Lamitan.
