POLICE Regional Office 2 director Brigadier General Crizaldo O. Nieves yesterday announced the arrest of two Land Transportation Office enforcers in Cagayan for robbery-extortion.
In a report to Philippine National Police chief General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official identified the two as Chito Apattad, 45, a resident of Barangay Camasi in Peñablanca municipality and Darwin Isidro Pauig, 41, of Alibagu, Enrile town.
Nieves said the two were arrested by members of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office under Colonel Ariel N. Quilang Jr. during an entrapment operation on Maharlika Highway in Barangay Pengue Ruyu in Tuguegarao City around 12:45 p.m. on Monday.
Members of the Cagayan PPO led by Majors Jefferson Gannaban and Rodel Gervacio, Captain Samuel Lopez and Lieutenant Jeremias Viniegas conducted the sting following a complaint from local drivers.
According to Quilang, drivers Donovan Divina, a 34-year old resident of Las Piñas City and Bongbong Ignacio,45, of Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, sought their help in arresting the LTO enforcers who allegedly confiscated their driver’s licenses and demanded money from them.
Quilang said during the sting, the suspects yielded the P20,000 worth of boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, a Temporary Operator’s Permit and a caliber .45 pistol with three magazines containing 23 live ammunition.
The two suspects are now facing charges for robbery-extortion and violation of the graft and corrupt practices act, the official said.
