2 cops escorting teachers hurt in Sulu ambush

TWO policemen providing security to a group of public school teachers yesterday were wounded in an ambush by heavily-armed Abu Sayyaf bandits in Patikul, Sulu.

Wounded were M/Sgt. Al-nidsfar Eraji and Pat. Jordan Changlapon, both members of the Patikul Municipal Police Station.

A report from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office said that the two were escorting teachers  on their way to Bgy. Taung in Patikul from Jolo, Sulu when they were shot by around 10 to15 Abu Sayyaf extremists in Bgy. Kan Ague at 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

The policemen led by Captain Marc Henry Gonzales returned fire and were believed to have hit some of the gunmen.

Eraji and Changlapon were wounded in the gunfight and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Members of the Sulu Police Provincial Office led by Col. Pablo Labra II rushed to the site to reinforce the beleaguered police team and asked the military to provide them back-up support.
