2 dead, 25 hurt as jeep hits 4 vehicles, plunges into sea

AT least two were killed while 25 were injured when a wayward passenger jeepney rammed four vehicles including a fire truck traveling along a highway in Tagbilaran City before plunging into the sea on Thursday afternoon, police said yesterday.

A sketchy report from the Police Regional Office 7 said that the driver of the passenger jeep identified as Jovelito Curangcurang lost control of the vehicle and rammed the four vehicles along the Mansasa Dampas Road corner Venancio Inting Avenue in Tagbilaran City at 2:41 p.m. Thursday.

The jeep first hit another jeep (plate no. VDJ-948) being driven by one Gene Boloron before smashing into a government fire truck with plate no. SKG-113 being driven by one Chase Siao.

It also hit a Kia Hatchback (plate no. KDD-699) being driven by one Danilo Pagatpat and a tricycle being driven by one Genis Bitas.

The report said that the wayward jeep then crashed into a steel barrier near the Lantaw Native Restaurant and plunged into the sea.

Initially, two unidentified women were reported as the fatalities as a result of the accident. Twenty-five other persons were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Members of the Bohol Provincial Highway Patrol Team rushed to the site to help direct traffic and bring the wounded to the hospital.

PRO7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas said an investigation into the incident is still ongoing. He said that criminal charges for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and serious physical injuries and multiple damage to properties will be filed against the jeep driver.
