2 drug sellers slain in Ecija

CABANATUAN CITY -- The Nueva Ecija police reported that two suspected drug peddlers were neutralized in buy-bust operations that turned into separate gunbattles yesterday and Wednesday.

Police Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete, provincial police chief, identified those killed as Edmundo Rivera, alias Dong, and Ireneo John Reyes Jr., alias Jan-Jan, of Bgy. H. Concepcion, both of this city.

Rivera was killed in a buy-bust conducted in Bgy. San Vicente, Gapan City at 2 a.m. yesterday.

Supt. Criselda Y. De Guzman, Gapan police head, said the suspect turned hostile during the drug sting and fought off anti-drug operatives resulting in his instantaneous death.

De Guzman said the suspect was categorized as a drug pusher in the watchlist of the Cabanatuan police.

Rosete said Reyes was neutralized during a buy-bust operation conducted in Bgy. Mapangpang, Lupao, Nueva Ecija at 1:20 a.m.

He said the suspect resisted arrest after consummating a drug deal resulting in an armed confrontation.
