LUCBAN, Quezon---Two suspected drug pushers were killed after they engaged in a shootout with pursuing cops at Bgy. Kulapi, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Quezon police director, Col. Audie Madrideo, said the slain suspects, Rex Carubio and Philip Natividad, both residents of Muntinlupa City, suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Madrideo said the shootout took place at 12:30 a.m. while joint elements of Provincial Intelligence Unit led by Major Gaylor Pagala and Lucban police station under Captain Vanessa Sayson were conducting drug buy bust whose subject persons were Carubio and Natividad.

During the exchange of shabu and marked money between Carubio and a poseur buyer, Madrideo said the suspects sensed that it was a police operation.

"At that point, Carubio pulled a cal. 45 pistol and opened fire prompting the lawmen to fire back hitting him in the body", said Madrideo.

He said Natividad who was on his Mazda car sped off while firing his pistol to pursuing policemen.

"But he (Natividad) was eventually cornered and killed by the lawmen", Madrideo said.

Police recovered two loaded cal. 45 pistols marked Ithaca and Shooters, 3 knot-tied transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and 50 pieces of marked P1,000 bills.

The crime scene processing and marking of evidence were witnessed by barangay officials and a media representative.
