ALIAGA, Nueva Ecija — The war against illegal drugs this time turned bloody in Nueva Ecija after two suspected drug traffickers were shot dead after consummating a deal with undercover police operatives before dawn here yesterday.
Newly-assigned town police head Major Marlon G. Serna identified the slain suspects as Joseph Mateo and Cris Franco Sanopo, both of Bgy. Aduas, Cabanatuan City.
Serna, who replaced erstwhile police chief Maj. Marlon Cudal here on Friday (Feb.21), said the armed encounter transpired during an anti-illegal drug operation conducted by his men in Bgy. Poblacion East II at 2:07 a.m.
He said the two suspects who were armed with cal.38s engaged his men in a brief gunfight shortly after a police poseur buyer bought a plastic sachet of shabu from them.
This allegedly triggered a shootout, resulting in their instantaneous deaths.
Serna said the duo were among those included in the drug watchlist of the Cabanatuan city police.
