TWO barangay officials in Mallig, Isabela were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for possession of illegal firearms following separate raids early morning last Saturday, PNP-CIDG director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel reported yesterday.
The official identified the suspects as Jolly Ladiero, the 53-year-old chairman of Bgy. Trinidad in Mallig municipality and ‘kagawad’ Gabriel Sambrano,28.
Coronel said members of the CIDG Regional Office 2 and the local police raided the houses of the two public officials on the strength of two search warrants for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Randy Bulwayan of the Roxas, Isabela Regional Trial Court Branch 23.
Recovered during the operations were one 12-gauge shotgun, one caliber .45 pistol, a cal. .22 rifle, one improvised shotgun or ‘sumpak’ and more than 20 rounds of assorted ammunition.
Coronel described the two as newly-identified members of the so-called Gromeo Criminal Group said to be engaged in gunrunning and gun-for-hire activities in Isabela.
Both are now being held at the CIDG Isabela lock-up facility and facing charges for violation of RA 10591.
