A soldier and two members of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)-inspired Dawlah Islamiyah were killed in an encounter Monday afternoon in Sharrif Aguar, Maguindanao.
According to Colonel Jose Narciso, commander of the Philippine Army’s 601st Unified Brigade, the rebels were followers of Dawlah Islamiyah terror group leader Salahuddin Hassan.
The group is an ISIS-inspired group operating in Center Mindanao.
The report said the encounter occurred at around 5:30 p.m. in Barangay Satan, Sharrif Aguar.
The troops were conducting patrol operations in the area when they encountered the terrorists.
At the height of the firefight, the military pounded the position of the enemies with gunfire, resulting in the death of two terrorists who were left by their fleeing comrades.
The firefight lasted for several minutes and also resulted in the wounding of another soldier.
Recovered from the encounter site were an improvised explosive device, an improvised Barrett sniper rifle and an M14 rifle, among others.
Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigation to the incident.
