TWO members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) were arrested by elements of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) during their operation in Agusan del Sur.
PNP-IMEG Director Colonel Ronald Oliver Lee identified the suspects as Police Staff Sergeant Eddie B. Magjuilimotan, 54, resident of Mankilam, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, and Corporal Ralfe S. Meraflor, 33, resident of Purok 13, Poblacion, Prosperidad.
The suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday at Purok 1, Bgy. Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
In his report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, Lee said the arrest of the suspects was in line with the continuing effort of IMEG to identify and arrest the so-called ‘Kotong’ policemen as part of the massive internal cleansing program.
“This is in line with our continuing effort to identify and arrest ‘so-called ‘kotong’ policemen as part of the massive internal cleansing program ordered by Gen. Gamboa,” Lee.said.
Lee said the suspects who were both members of the Agusan del Sur Provincial Highway Patrol Team of the PNP-HPG were the subject of complaints sent to the PNP-IMEG hotlines, mostly coming from drivers of delivery trucks and vans who claimed they were being forced to shell money by the two each time they pass in their areas.
“We launched the entrapment operation shortly after our undercover officers validated the information following days of surveillance,” Lee said.
Lee said that during the sting, the two policemen were found in possession of P2,500 in marked money paid by a poseur.
He said that they are filing criminal charges for robbery-extortion against the two policemen. Lee added that they will recommend to the PNP-HPG director the filing of administrative charges for grave misconduct against the two accused who are now under the custody of the IMEG Mindanao Field Unit.
Lee said complaints against rogues in uniform may be forwarded to the following PNP-IMEG hotline numbers: SMART – 09989702286 or GLOBE- 09957952569. Information may also be forwarded to Facebook Page: Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
