2 men held for threatening to kill Ecija bgy chairman

CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija -- Two men who allegedly planned to kill a barangay captain in this town were arrested in separate police operations Wednesday evening.

One of the suspects was caught  after receiving the “extortion money” worth P40,000 from their supposed target.

Arrested in the entrapment was Reynaldo Ronquillo, 35, a farmer, of Bgy. Baloy.

Town police head Lt. Col. Victor Cacdac identified the alleged target of the assassination plot as barangay captain Jay Dioso, 48, of Purok 5, Bgy. Tutuloy.

Another suspect, Diosdado Macaraeg, 37, a laborer, of Bgy. Tutuloy, was caught in another operation.

Macaraeg was tagged as the alleged brains of the supposed murder plot.

Dioso complained to the police that suspect Ronquillo contacted him and asked for a partial payment of P40,000 in exchange for not killing him.

Cacdac said they immediately hatched a sting in Bgy. Baloy at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ronquillo was nabbed right after receiving the extortion money.

Macaraeg was arrested next after police investigators were able to monitor his FB messenger conversation with Ronquillo.

The police chief said that a third suspect,  an alleged barangay captain, managed to elude arrest.

Cacdac said the arrested suspects were locked up at the police detention cell facing extortion charges, grave threats, and attempted murder.
