CABANATUAN City -- Two armed encounters in separate operations in Nueva Ecija have resulted in the death of two motorcycle-riding suspects, police said yesterday.

In Purok Sagingan, Bgy. Nazareth, General Tinio, Insp. Alberto Garcia, deputy police commander, said the gunfight erupted after patrolling lawmen tried to approach two suspicious-looking men riding a motorcycle, who were spotted roaming in the area at 1:20 a.m. Saturday.

Garcia said the unidentified back rider suddenly pulled out a handgun and fired at the lawmen, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was subsequently hit while his cohort immediately fled towards north direction.

The wounded back rider was rushed to the nearby Medicare Community Hospital at 2:15 a.m. but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

In Bgy. Villa Rosenda, Talugtug, Senior Insp. Jay Cabrera, town police head, described the unidentified slain motorcycle-riding suspect as wearing maong pants and white T-shirt, about 25-30 years old, 5’3” in height, fair-complexioned and had a sporty hair.

Cabrera said the encounter occurred after the suspect and his driver-cohort were flagged down at a checkpoint along the Talugtug-Muñoz Road while on board a black Honda TMX motorcycle.

Instead of stopping, the duo ignored his men and the back rider fired at them, resulting in a gunfight which led to the death of the unidentified suspect.

Cabrera said the slain suspect’s cohort managed to escape towards Muñoz Science City.

Recovered at the encounter site were three plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, six fired cartridge cases for cal. 9mm., two fired cartridge cases for cal. .45, a fired cartridge case for cal. .22 and a cal. 22 pistol marked “Colt” with an inserted empty magazine.
