2 profiteers arrested in N. Cotabato, Iloilo

PHILIPPINE National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel yesterday announced the arrest of two more persons engaged in hoarding and profiteering.

The official said one of the two suspects identified as May-Ann Latonio was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Nursery Phase 2 in Barangay Poblacion, Kidapawan City in North Cotabato at 5 p.m. last Wednesday.

Recovered by CIDG Region 12 and local police operatives from the suspect’s possession were 192 bottles of 150ml Casino 70 percent ethyl alcohol being sold by the accused for a total of P13,440 and the marked money paid to her by a poseur.

Coronel said the suspect was found selling each alcohol bottle for P70 although the Department of Trade and Industry said a 250ml alcohol should be sold at P41.75 each only.

The 2nd identified as Siera Paula Mallada was arrested in an entrapment operation in Bgy. Tabuc Suba in Jaro, Iloilo City around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Seized from the suspect’s possession were 192 bottles of  250ml Hygienix alcohol being sold by the suspect at a total price of P14,400 and the boodle money topped by a marked bill.

Coronel said that both suspects will be facing charges for violation of the Price Act and the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
