TWO ranking leaders of the New Peoples’ Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with government forces the other day in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
This was confirmed by Colonel Ezra Balagtey, spokesperson of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) .
Balagtey identified the fatalities as Lesly Pulido alias Camille, commander of Sec, Guerilla Front. 51, (GF51) and Roberto Castellote alias Enoy, commander of guerilla unit of GF51.
He said the encounter occurred Friday morning in the hinterlands of Sitio Lanan, Barangay Goma, Digos City, Davao del Sur.
According to Col. Adonis Bajao, commander of 1002nd Infantry Brigade troops went to the area in response to the report regarding the presence of rebels harassing the community.
Upon reaching the place, the rebels immediately fired their guns that prompted the troops to return fire that triggered the firefight that lasted for 45 minutes and resulted to the killing of the two NPA leaders.
