TWO beneficiaries of the government’s Social Amelioration Program to help Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 lockdown ended up in a police jail in Cagayan de Oro City after they were caught drinking in public, using the cash assistance to buy liquor, the Police Regional Office 10 said yesterday.
Claver Lomongon, 39, and Archer Bacala,40, both residents of Block 4, Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City were arrested while drinking in public on Friday afternoon, said PRO10 director, Brigadier General Rolando B. Anduyan.
Recovered from the suspects by local policemen led by Captain Homer Ostan were bottles of Red Horse which they bought after getting their assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The two are now facing charges for violation of the liquor ban and the Enhanced Community Quarantine, said Anduyan.
The arrest of the two came amid proposal to exclude people who will be caught gambling and drinking in public from the list of SAF beneficiaries.
