273 arrested for MECQ violations, crime in Cavite

A TOTAL of 273 persons on Sunday and early morning yesterday were apprehended by the Cavite police for various felonies or violation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Vicente D. Danao Jr. said.

Of the 273 people, 171 were accosted for violation of MECQ protocols including mandatory wearing of face masks, social distancing, going in public without quarantine pass from their barangays, violation of curfew hours and disobedience to persons in authority, said Cavite Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Marlon R. Santos.

The others include 33 men arrested for involvement in illegal drug trafficking, 99 for illegal gambling and 13 who were the subject of warrants of arrest for carnapping, malicious mischief, frustrated homicide, qualified theft, concubinage, serious physical injuries and rape.

Santos said recovered during the anti-illegal gambling operations were 17 live and two dead fighting cocks, four gaffs or ‘tari,’ playing cards and mahjong tiles and cash bets.

On the other hand, seized from the arrested drug targets were 71 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia and marked money paid to them by undercover officers.
