A GUNBATTLE between Albay policemen and a group of suspected drug traffickers in the area early evening Friday left three armed suspects dead, Police Regional Office 5 director, Chief Superintendent Arnel B. Escobal reported yesterday.

Escobal identified the slain suspects as Pedrito Tibay alias ‘Mao,’ Jeruth Catubig alias ‘Bunker’ and Carlo Rim.

He said that the suspects engaged members of the PRO5 Regional Intelligence Division, the Albay Police Provincial Office, the Daraga Municipal Police Station and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 5 in a firefight in Purok 7, Barangay Binitayan in Daraga town at 6:20 p.m. Friday and were killed on the spot.

According to the Bicol police director,  the suspects have just conspired to sell shabu to an undercover officer when they sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and fired shots at the poseur.

Back-up operatives returned fire hitting the suspects. Escobal said three loaded firearms, five heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the marked money were recovered from the possession of the slain suspects.
