3 terrorists turned drug dealers killed

THREE known members of the ISIS-inspired Dawlah Islamiyah terror group operating in Central Mindanao who have  also gained notoriety for their involvement in illegal drug trafficking activities have been killed in separate gunbattles with undercover officers this week Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Michael John F. Dubria announced yesterday.

The Central Mindanao police director said the suspects identified as Joven Cabalo, Dimas Aminola Talib and Jomari Doma       were shot dead while trading shots with the local police in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

“We have neutralized three known terror group members-turned drug dealers in the region in the wake of our stepped-up campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and terrorism,” said Dubria.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official said that the three were all known to be members of the Nilong Sub-Group of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Hassan Group.

Dubria said Cabalo engaged members of the Polomolok Municipal Police Station in a shootout after he sensed he was dealing with an undercover officer In Purok 4 in Barangay Lapu Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect died while being taken to a local hospital. Dubria said Cabalo yielded a caliber .38 revolver with two spent cartridges and two live ammunition, a coin purse containing 10 heat-sealed plastic sachets with shabu, a plastic sachet containing the same drug which he sold to an undercover officer and the marked bill paid to him by the agent.

The slain suspect’s motorcycle was impounded by the local police.

On Wednesday, Cabalo was killed after being shot by one of his escorts about to bring him to the Polomolok Municipal Hospital for a medical check-up following his arrest for a robbery with violence case.

Dubria said while inside the police vehicle, Cabalo grabbed the firearm of one of his escorts and managed to squeeze its trigger at the direction of the other policemen who were forced to fire at him in self-defense.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where an attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.

On Thursday, Talib was killed in a shootout with officers of the Polomolok MPS who were about to arrest him after he sold shabu to an agent.

Dubria said the suspect apparently sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and pulled out a concealed gun and tried to shoot the agent. Back-up operatives returned fire hitting the suspect who died while being brought to a local hospital by members of the municipal rescue team.

The suspect was found in possession of a loaded revolver, a plastic sachet containing shabu and the buy-bust money.
