THIRTY-FOUR members of the Police Regional Office 9 recently received medals for their success in neutralizing members of notorious terror and criminal gangs operating in Western Mindanao, Police Regional Office 9 director Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis D. Licup announced yesterday.
Licup said 14 of the policemen received the PNP Medalya ng Kagalingan for neutralizing armed members of the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group and several guns-for-hire in the region.
Among the honorees were Supt. Gilbert Nino Manese, Insp. Kent Gudmalin and Police Officer 3 Joseph Ryan Jalon, all members of the Isabela City police station in Basilan, who captured Abu Sayyaf hitman Omaidie Salain in Purok Stairway, Bgy. Sumagdang in Isabela City. While Chief Insp. Al-Reiza Kinang, PO1s Carigold Flora Allado and Lea Jane Damian, all of Regional Intelligence Unit 9, received the medals for the arrest of Abu bandit Nasir Daud in Bgy. Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City last August 23.
Chief Inspector Heidel Te-elan, SPO1 Roderick Flores and PO2 Noriel Laureta, all of the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Mobile Company, got the medal for capturing Zomar Sabtal, a member of a notorious crime group operating, last September 10.
Senior Insp. Nedzfar Hassan and PO3 Ahmad Mizar Alfad, both of the 903rd Maneuvering Company of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9, were awarded for their role in the surrender of Abu Sayyaf bomb maker Jul-Amin Anundun alias “Abu Mamin/Abu Khalifa” in Bgy. Baguindan in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan last September 5.
Licup said at least 20 PRO9 police officers and men also got the same PNP Merit Medal for their outstanding accomplishments in the campaign against drugs, criminality and terror in the region.
