THIRTY-FIVE persons conducting illegal cockfighting on Sunday were arrested by anti-gambling operatives in a raid in Talavera, Nueva Ecija and in Agoncillo in Batangas.
The arrests were made amid President Duterte’s imposition of enhanced community quarantine in Luzon as a preventive measure against COVID-19.
Talavera town police commander Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito identified those nabbed as Jessie Estares, 34; Ricardo Padigdig, 35; Ricky Magtalapa, 34; Raymond Magtalapa, 25; Ryan Magtalapa, 32; Ricardo Magtalapa, 54; Renzo Magtalapa, 23; Restituto Magtalapa, 52; Michael Duran Quinto, 24; Mark Jerome Ferry, 27; Larry Somera, 48; Wilfredo Marcos Jr., 26; and Abert Magtalapa, 28, all of Bgy. Dimasalang Sur, this town.
Seized during the operation were six fighting cocks, 14 pieces of gaffs (tare), four pieces of cock gloves, and P2,000 in bet money.
Desamito said the operation was conducted after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen that an illegal "bularet" operation was being conducted in Bgy. Dimasalang Sur at 4:50 p.m. on Sunday.
Charges for violation of PD 1602 are being prepared for filing against the suspects before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office.
In Batangas, police on Sunday also hauled to jail 22 men for illegal cockfighting in Agoncillo municipality.
