POLICE Regional Office 11 director, Brigadier General Filmore B. Escobal yesterday announced the surrender of five more New People’s Army members in Mindanao following talks with his men.
“We have facilitated the surrender of five more NPA rebels from Bukidnon, Agusan Del Sur and Davao del Norte, all of them deciding to yield to the government after years of hardship in their mountain hideouts. All will also avail of the government’s livelihood program,” Escobal told the Journal Group.
The official has directed PRO11 Deputy Regional Director for Operations, Colonel Edgar A. Okubo to supervise efforts of the PRO11 Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Logistics and Research Development Division, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11 and other PRO11 provincial offices in convincing more NPA guerrillas and sympathizers to yield.
This week, Escobal said that two NPA members identified only as ‘Ka Nick’ and ‘Ka Bong’ surrendered to PRO11 and local police and Army officers in Barangay Marbon, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur. The two are known NPA rebels operating in Agusan del Sur.
Prior to that, another NPA guerrillas identified only as ‘Ka Nick,’ a squad medic of the NPA’s Front Committee 9 operating in different parts of Bukidnon province also yielded to PRO11 and PR010 officials.
Last Monday, another NPA team leader identified as ‘Ka Piken’ of the rebels’ Front 56 operating in Tagum City, Davao del Norte also surrendered to police and Army authorities in the area. Escobal said that members of the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Special Action Force are helping them in their effort too.
