SIX operating units of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday received a total of P5.916,765.8 in monetary rewards for their role in the seizure of over P2 billion worth of shabu and other illegal drugs in the country since the start of the Duterte administration.
PDEA chair, Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva personally handed the cash reward to the heads of the PDEA Intelligence and Investigation Service (PDEA-IIS); PDEA Special Enforcement Service (PDEA-SES); PDEA Regional Office-National Capital Region (PDEA RO-NCR); PDEA Regional Office 5; PDEA Regional Office 7 and PDEA Regional Office 8 during simple rites at their Quezon City headquarters.
“These PDEA operating units received cash rewards under PDEA Operation: “Lawmen”, an incentive program for law enforcers or members of the anti-illegal drug units/teams or task forces, including the support unit/s after the conduct of laudable anti-drug operations,” Villanueva said.
Operation: “Lawmen” took effect on September 3, 2016 thru Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation Number 1, Series of 2016.
The PDEA-IIS got the biggest reward worth ₱1,396,068.85 for their role in the interception of nearly 277 kilograms of shabu worth P1.8 billion inside the Manila International Container Port on March 22 last year.
The same unit also got ₱792,920.00 for their involvement in operation in Purok 5, Barangay San Ildefonso in Magalang, Pampanga on September 7, 2016 which led in the dismantling of a small-scale shabu laboratory where 488.2 grams of methylephedrine were seized and seven suspects were arrested.
On the other hand, the PDEA-SES got ₱542,156.57 as a result of a successful buy-bust operation along Molino Boulevard corner Aguinaldo Highway, Talaba 4 in Bacoor City in Cavite last March 5 which resulted in the arrest of three ‘high-value targets’ who yielded over 15 kilos of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth ₱102.05 million.
The PDEA RO-NCR received ₱937,523.67 as a result of an entrapment operation along Tabayoc Street, Barangay Sienna, Quezon City on December 24, 2019 which resulted in the confiscation of 117.7 kilograms of shabu worth ₱800.3 million, and the arrest of one drug personality.
The PDEA Regional Office 5 received ₱594,721.19 following an interdiction operation at the Matnog Seaport in Matnog, Sorsogon which led in the arrest of two drug traffickers and the confiscation of 19,486.9 grams of shabu worth ₱132.49 million last January 16.
The PDEA Regional Office 7 got 528,000.00 for their conduct of a marijuana eradication operation in Sitio Capio-an, Bgy. Sunog in Balamban, Cebu on November 14, 2019 which resulted in the destruction of 22,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth ₱4.4 million, and the arrest of three cultivators at the site.
Villanueva said the PDEA Regional Office 8 received the reward of ₱1,125,375.50 for their success in intercepting six drug traffickers who yielded nearly 88 kilograms of shabu worth P597.28 million along the national highway in Gandara, Samar on October 17, 2019.
