7 dogs for ‘pulutan’ rescued

CABANATUAN CITY - Seven live canines were rescued from being slaughtered and cooked as “pulutan” while the owner of the dog meat eatery was nabbed during sting operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group here yesterday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Robert C. Rongavilla, CIDG provincial officer’ identified the arrested suspect as Danilo Gallardo, 53, of Purok Amihan, Bgy. Barrera, this city.

The CIDG conducted the operation at 12:50 p.m. yesterday based on the complaint by Allan Pekit-pekit, investigator of the Animal Kingdom Foundation based in Capas, Tarlac.

Chief Master Sgt. Ceferino Mesina, CIDG investigator said the raid was made by the CIDG and AKF after receiving reports about the alleged existence of an illegal slaughterhouse and illegal dog meat trading in the area.

During the raid, seven live dogs were saved from being slaughtered while seized were several kitchen utensils such as six pieces of knives, a big kitchen pot, a ladle and strainer.

“Ready for slaughter na ang mga aso nang dumating kami, nakasako bawat aso nasa kusina ready to cook,” said Mesina.

At the CIDG detention, Gallardo said he just bought three dogs worth P920 from a seller in San Leonardo. “Wala pa nga po kami lutong aso nang dumating ang pulis”.

He said they only started the dog meat trade this month for additional income of his family.

“Nagtitinda lang kami ng ulam dahil kapos po ang pera at pangkain baon pa ng lima kong anak,” he told this reporter yesterday.
