THE National Police Commission has confirmed the special promotion of 75 police personnel who demonstrated courage during the ISIS-inspired Maute group siege of Marawi City in 2017.
In a resolution, the NAPOLCOM en banc headed by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said it recognized the cops’ heroics and confirmed the special promotion to the next higher rank of the 75 police personnel following the recommendation made by the PNP Chief Police Director General Oscar D. Albayalde.
NAPOLCOM Vice-Chairman and Executive Officer Atty. Rogelio T. Casurao said the 75 PNP uniformed personnel held their grounds and their bravery resulted in the neutralization of 920 LTGs including their leaders Isnilon Hapilon and brothers Abdullah and Omar Maute, rescue of 1,777 hostages, and recovery of 479 units of assorted high-powered firearms, several rounds of ammunition, and ordnance and improvised explosive device (IED).
Earlier, the NAPOLCOM also confirmed the special promotion of 745 police personnel for risking their lives during the five-month long Marawi siege.
