NINE members of the Abu Sayyaf Group ( ASG) surrendered to government forces at the height of intensified manhunt operation against the bandits involved in the twin bombings in Indanan, Sulu that killed 5 persons and wounded of 22 others last June.
This was confirmed yesterday by Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu spokesperson LTC Gerald Monfort.
Identities of those who surrendered were not yet available as of press time.
Monfort said the bandits surrendered to the 2nd Special Forces Batallion on July 15, 2019.
The 9 ASG surrenderers handed over two M16 rifles, five M1 Garand rifles, and two cal.45 pistols to BGen Antonio G. Nafarrete, Commander of 1101st Infantry Brigade and BGen Corleto Vinluan Jr, Commander of JTF Sulu.
The surrenderers were brought to KHTB Station Hospital for medical check-up and debriefing while at JTF Sulu Camp.
The bandits claimed the troops all out offensive in Sulu forced them to give up.
They revealed there are several other ASG members who are planning to surrender.
