Abandoned NPA lair found in Ecija

GABALDON, Nueva Ecija -- An abandoned New People's Army (NPA) lair that can accommodate about 50 terrorist guerillas was discovered by the police and military on Thursday here.

Police provincial chief Col. Leon Victor Rosete said the abandoned rebel encampment was chanced upon by operating troops in the vicinity of Sitio Dupinga, Bgy. Ligaya at 3:30 p.m.

While scouring the area, the troops also discovered a buried food cache with three containers having a capacity of 90 liters of rice and a cooking pot that can accommodate at least 15 people.

Rosete said an upper receiver group for M-16 rifle and 400 rounds of live ammunition for M-14 rifle were also found in the site.

He said the operation which was supervised by Lt. Col. Dennis Wenceslao, of the 1st provincial mobile force company and Lt. Col. Reandrew Rubio, of the 91st IB was made amid a unilateral ceasefire declared by President Duterte with the CPP-NPA-NDF effective March 19 to April 15 so the state can focus on efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
