Abu Sayyaf kidnapper nabbed in Zamboanga Sibugay

COMBINED police and military operatives on Monday arrested a notorious member of the Abu Sayyaf Group in an operation in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Philippine Army 1st Infantry Division spokesman Capt. Clint Antipala identified the arrested bandit as Maldimar Mahmor, a kidnapper under Sulu-based Abu leader Idang Susukan, who was a follower of  Galib Andang also known as Commander Robot.

Mahmor, who was involved in a series of high-profile kidnappings, was arrested by joint forces from the Philippine Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion and the Philippine National Police in Bgy. Madaup in the municipality of Ipil at 1 a.m. on Monday.

The Abu bandit was arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

According to Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, commander of the 44th Infantry Battalion, Mahmor served as liaison and facilitator of the ASG in the kidnapping activities in Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.

Mahmor took part in the Sipadan kidnapping in 2000, where the bandits abducted 21 individuals composed of European and Malaysian tourists and Filipino resort workers.

He was also involved in the abduction of a former mayor of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay and the Duterte couple in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

Seized from Mahmor were one cal. .38 revolver, one hand grenade, one M-16 magazine with ammunition and one rocket-propelled grenade ammunition.
