ArchdioceseNueva Segovia takes measures vs COVID-19 during Holy Week

VIGAN CITY — The Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia is taking measures during the Holy Week to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In Circular No. 4, series of 2020 issued by Archbishop Marlo Peralta, D.D., he provided instructions to be observed by the faithful in all the parishes in the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

On Holy Thursday, the Lord’s Supper Liturgy at 4p.m. is to be celebrated without the congregation in attendance.

The traditional washing of the feet and the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose and around the parish processional route or to the barangays are to be omitted.

For Good Friday, DZNS, the radio station of Nueva Segovia, will provide the faithful a live coverage of the Seven Last Words from the Saint Paul Cathedral.

“The Good Friday services will start as usual at 3p.m. in all parishes and the faithful will participate actively in their homes. An altar table with the crucifix on it is to be set up for veneration in the homes. Procession is also omitted on this day,” said the circular.

“The Easter vigil starts at 6p.m. with the blessing of fire omitted. The readings may be shortened. No celebration of Baptism but the usual renewal of baptismal promises is to be done with the faithful in their homes participating while holding lighted candles. The salubongis also omitted,” the circular reads.
