TWO men wearing face masks at gunpoint forced the driver and passengers van in Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur out of the vehicle before setting it on fire past 10 a.m. Sunday, a Police Regional Office 9 report said.
An investigation showed that the two suspects flagged down the Pagadian City-bound van in Barangay Tinuguangan, Dimataling municipality and pretended to be passengers.
When the vehicle stopped, one of the suspects immediately went to the driver’s seat and at gunpoint ordered the driver to open the door.
The Visayan-speaking suspect then turned off the engine and grabbed the van’s key.
He and his fellow armed cohort ordered the driver and his passengers to alight from the vehicle before setting the vehicle on fire.
The two fled towards Dinas town.
Members of the Dimataling Municipal Police Station who responded to the scene found the van still burning and the driver, identified as Eulito Requizo, 47, of Pitogo municipality; his neighbor-conductor Alejandro Lacida, 21; and their four passengers unharmed.
The passengers told police the suspects did not harm or steal anything from them.
Local policemen are checking the identities of the suspects and the motive behind the attack, said PRO9 director Brigadier General Jesus D. Cambay Jr.
