Armed suspect gunned down, 3 held in Antipolo

AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) on Tuesday evening raided the Antipolo City safehouse of a notorious organized crime group engaged in kidnapping-for-ransom, robbery, gun-for-hire and illegal drug activities in Calabarzon region and Metro Manila, triggering a shootout which led in the killing of one of the suspects, PNP-AKG director, Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo announced yesterday.

In a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the PNP-AKG director said that the leader and two other members of the notorious ‘Lawin Group’ were also arrested during the operation in Sitio Singalong in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Estomo identified the slain suspect as Nanestro Balderas alias ‘Payang’ while arrested were the suspected ‘Lawin Group’ leader identified as Juanito Aringoy alias ‘Lawin’ and his members John Axel Gazer alias ‘Janjan’ and Sarah Jean Pimentel.

The official said that two teams from the AKG Luzon Field Unit led by Lieutenant Colonel Villaflor Bannawagan and Major Erving Chan, in coordination with the Antipolo City Police Station were trying to serve a warrant of arrest  for murder issued against the accused by Judge Rey Lor of the Antipolo City Regional Trial Court Branch 71 when the suspects resisted.

Estomo said Balderas fired shots at the AKG officers who were forced to retaliate killing him on the spot. The other suspects were arrested in follow-up operations.

Recovered during the operation were one caliber .45 pistol, a cal. .38 revolver, several live ammunition and spent cartridges and various drug paraphernalia.

“We have information that the suspects were mostly involved in robbery-holdup, gun-for-hire, kidnapping and illegal drug activities prior to last Tuesday’s operation,” said Estomo.

The official said that the suspects were charged with murder in connection with the killing of one Koby Dimaano.
