HOUSE Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday hosted the campaign caravan of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial candidates in Negros Occidental.
Led by its campaign manager Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the HNP senatorial bets courted voters from one of the vote-rich provinces.
Arroyo hosted the team in the hometown of her sister-in-law, Maria Lourdes Arroyo, in Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Arroyo’s sister-in-law is running for congresswoman in the 5th district of the province.
“When I saw the schedule of Hugpong, I’ve seen that they don’t get a rally yet here. Since my sister-in-law is a candidate in the 5th district, I said maybe we can invite them. So, of course they accepted it. Negros Occidental is a very big province and it is important to meet the voters here,” Arroyo said.
“It’s really for the Hugpong candidates to introduce themselves to the people of Negros Occidental,” she added.
Mayor Duterte pitched for the 13 senatorial candidates of the HNP namely former MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, re-electionists Senators Sonny Angara, Cynthia Villar, JV Ejercito and Koko Pimentel, Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu, Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano, ILocos Gov. Imee Marcos, former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, former police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, former journalist Jiggy Manicad, and ex-senators Bong Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada.
Present in yesterday’s campaign held at the Asenso Isabeleño Cultural Center were Tolentino, Manicad, Dela Rosa, Villar, and Mangudadatu. Go was represented by comedian Bayani Agbayani while Marcos by her brother, Bongbong Marcos.
Later in the day, Speaker Arroyo hosted the HNP bets in Bacolod City.
