BACOOR CITY, Cavite -- The local government has ordered the temporary closure of the Bacoor City Public Market (Zapote Public Market) due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
Local officials said the public market will be closed until August 18 after seven vendors and one market marshall tested positive for the coronavirus during the mass testing held last August 7.
Around 800 vendors and helpers were affected by the lockdown.
Rolling stores were put up in each barangay as alternative stores while the public market was locked down for one week for disenfection.
The City Health Office urged market goers to immediately coordinate with their respective barangay health emergency response teams if they experience symptoms of the disease.
Bacoor City Public Market serves as trading center because of the cheap goods being sold in the market.
As of August 9, Bacoor City has 945 Covid-19 cases, with 435 active cases, 465 recoveries and 45 deaths.
