TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija -- One of two suspected members of a Basag-Kotse syndicate was killed while his cohort escaped when they traded shots during hot pursuit operations conducted by responding lawmen, who were dispatched to a burglary incident involving a sedan owned by a manager of a direct selling company in Bgy. Poblacion Sur last Wednesday night here.
Supt. Joe Neil Rojo, town police head, said the supposed victim Leny Rose Balaquidan, 39, single, area manager of Personal Collection, a resident of Bgy. Kalikid, Cabanatuan City promptly alerted authorities when she heard a noise coming from the parking area and saw two men breaking the glass window of her white Toyota Vios (A5 S500) while parked beside her office at 7:10 p.m.
Rojo said one of the suspects, who was donning black jacket, face mask and bull cap, even fired his gun in the air upon sensing they were being spotted by the victim.
Rojo said a mobile patrol unit on standby near the area responded and engaged the fleeing suspects, who were on board a black motorcycle in a shootout, resulting to the death of one of them.
Recovered at the encounter site were a Magnum cal.22 revolver, several fired bullets and a black sling bag believed owned by the slain suspect.
