A MOTORCYCLE-RIDING Bohol policeman was killed after being crushed by pieces of heavy mahogany lumber which fell off from a truck carrying them in a highway in Clarin municipality on Wednesday afternoon, a Police Regional Office 7 report said yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Hermes Sanchez, a 49-year old member of the Buenavista Municipal Police Station, was on the opposite direction of a a 10-wheeler truck being driven by Jerry Sunpongco when the vehicle’s cargo accidentally fell in a curve on a road in Barangay Mataub in Clarin at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
As a a result, pieces of timber crushed the policeman who was wearing a helmet, in full uniform and with his issued firearm tucked in his waistline.
Responding members of the Clarin Municipal Police Station led by SPO4 Ralph Celosia found the policeman’s body under the pile of mahogany lumber.
PRO7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas said that Sunpongco, a resident of Bgy. Udiong in Jana municipality was detained at the local police jail facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
The body of the victim will be taken to his residence in Bgy. Calangahan in Sagbayan town, said Sinas.
