AN improvised explosive device went off in a highway in General Santos City at around 11:40 a.m. yesterday injuring seven innocent people, the youngest a 3-year old girl, police said.
The IED was detonated beside the TGP Generic Pharmacy near the Hadano Park in Crossing Makar along the national highway in General Santos City wounding the victims who were taken to the St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The wounded were identified as Marlon Orabia, 30; Claire Uozola, 24; John Lennon Calang, 22; Jerry Cuyos, 19; Joana Bless Alipio, 3; Lally Jean Alipio, 34; and Filipa Regidor, 64.
Meanwhile, Malacañang yesterday vowed to get the perpetrators of the bombing attack even as it condemned the brazen act.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms today’s explosion that hit General Santos City which left seven people injured,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
We vow to bring the perpetrators of this brazen attack to justice,” he said.
None of the victims were in critical condition, security officials said.
Following the incident, Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde ordered their men to make all efforts to identify and arrest the attackers. Police Regional Office 12 director, Chief Superintendent Eliseo T. Tasco has formed a special task force to investigate the terror attack and hunt down the suspects.
“I have directed the mobilization of all available police security forces in pursuit operations against persons responsible for the latest act of terrorism in General Santos City this morning even as we extend our support and sympathies to our fellow Filipinos who were wounded in the explosion incident,” the top cop said in a press statement.
“We join the entire Filipino nation in strong condemnation of this senseless act of terror for whatever motive its perpetrators may have,” said the PNP chief.
Gen. Albayalde assured the public of the PNP’s keen resolve and commitment to bring before the bar of justice those responsible for this dastardly and vicious act.
“I have once again strongly directed our police units in SOCSARGEN to further intensify conduct of checkpoints, police visibility patrols, and focused intelligence and law enforcement operations in close coordination with the rest of the members of the security sector.
