New grad, 2 others killed.
THE young man was a fresh high school graduate. Most likely he had high hopes for a great future. Grimly, fate had other plans for him. His dreams were crushed along with his body when his bus plunged 30 meters into a ravine in Antique Friday evening.
A report received by the Public Commuters and Motorists Alliance (PCMA) said the male fresh graduate and two others were killed while seven others were killed in the accident.
The fatalities were identified as Evangeline C. Chicano, 45, of Bgy. Guinbangaan, San Jose; Vivien Omaño, 45, and her son, Earl Aaron Omaño, 20, of Bgy. Borocboroc, Belison.
Injured were Jeannine Eve C. Chicano, 26, of Bgy Guinbangaan; John Lawrenz E. Sanchez, 18, and Loriemae E. Onera, 19, both from Bgy. Lapaz Tubog, Hamtic; Edwin V. Omaño, 48, and Hanz Gabriel Omaño, 16, of Bgy. Borocboroc; bus driver Ramon Abellar, 45, of Tibiao town; and bus conductor Ervic D. Nepomuceno, 35, of Bgy. Sta. Cruz, Pandan. They are currently confined at the Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital in San Jose, Antique.
Police Sr. Master Sgt. Llanie Adores said the Ceres bus (FHS 949) was its way to San Jose, Antique from Iloilo when it overshot the railing along a curve in Bgy. Igbucagay and plunged into the ravine at about 9:45 p.m.
The bus was carrying nine passengers, a driver, and a conductor when the accident occurred.
Police said the management promised to pay for the burial expenses and extend financial support to the victims and their families.
