February 24, 2020

POLICE Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Albert Ignatius D. Ferro yesterday announced the confiscation of over 10 kilograms of shabu worth more than P70 million during a series of anti-crime operations in Central Visayas last week.

“We conducted our 1st Simultaneous Enhanced Managing Police Operations across the region targeting all wanted criminals specifically those involved in illegal drug trafficking,” the member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Makatao’ Class of 1989 told the Journal Group.

According to the official, the February 18-20 anti-crime operations saw his men serving search warrants and warrants of arrest for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and other major crimes.

As a result, Ferro said that they seized nearly 10.4 kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine,’ nearly three kilograms of dried marijuana leaves valued at over P70,000 and a total of 214 unlicensed firearms of various calibers.

The PRO7 director said that their ‘First 2020 SEMPO,’ previously known as the Philippine National Police’s ‘One-Time, Big-Time’ anti-crime operations likewise led in the arrest of 344 wanted persons including 59 ‘high-value drug targets’ and 221 known ‘street-level drug traffickers.’

The rest were wanted for other major crimes.

“We consider the confiscation of over 10 kilograms of shabu in the region last week as a major accomplishment and assure the public that we would be further stepping-up our anti-crime drive in the coming days,” Ferro said.
