Cagayan vendor jailed over cache of weapons

A 55-YEAR old meat vendor in Gattaran, Cagayan was arrested and jailed by the local police after officers discovered two rifle grenades, a caliber .38 revolver and several live ammunition inside his house last Friday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

Cesar Ramos, a resident of Zone 2, Barangay Nabaccayan in Gattaran municipality found himself in hot water  after members of the local police led by Chief Inspector Virgilio Dorado Jr. recovered the illegal weapons in his residence during the 6:30 a.m. Friday raid, the official said.

Espino said that his men conducted the raid on the strength of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and explosives issued by a local court.

The search led in the confiscation of two rifle grenades, a cal. .38 revolver with six live ammunition and two cal. .45 bullets. Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives will be filed against the suspect who is now being held at the Gattaran police jail, said Espino.
