POLICE Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Edward E. Carranza yesterday announced two major accomplishments scored by his men: an anti-narcotics operation in Batangas province which led in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of P1.6 million worth of shabu and the solution of two murder cases in Laguna and Batangas.
The official said that on Saturday, members of the Batangas Provincial Intelligence Branch and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, the Tanauan City Police Station DEU and the PRO4-A Regional Intelligence Unit arrested suspected big-time drug dealers Elmar JD Velado, Mohammad Habbir Usman alias ‘Prince’ and his cousin Abdulwalid Usman alias ‘Walid’ during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Darasa, Tanauan City.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing around 100 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ with a local market value of P1.6 million, the boodle money topped by two marked P1,000 bills and two mobile phones they used in making the illegal drug transaction.
The Calabarzon police director also announced the solution of the case of 24-year old Carl Laurence Demerey, a resident of no. 14 Aerospace Street, Ato Village, Bgy. BF Inter in CAA, Las Piñas City whose body was found in a vacant lot in Bgy. Canlalay, Biñan City, Laguna last week.
He said that an investigation showed that the victim and some of his friends had a drinking spree at the Kainan sa Nepa Resto Bar located along the national highway in Bgy. San Vicente, which started at around 10 p.m. last June and lasted until 7 the next morning.
Carranza said that after their drinking bout ended, the victim decided to stay in the restobar while his friends all went home.
The official said that an investigation conducted by the Laguna Police Provincial Office headed by Colonel Eleazar Matta showed that while still inside the restobar, the victim continued drinking with three men who were later identified as Najir Macaorao alias ‘John,’ Abdul Gaus alias ‘Mike’ and one Esmael Sultan alias ‘Into.’
